“If it’s good enough for tennis, it’s good enough for the Olympics.”
Get rid of this NEUTRAL branding, they're individuals with no attachments. If they win a gold or a medal leave the flagpole empty. Ban them from all team events - because they're individuals. They could stay in individual rooms in athletes village or in hotels like any other sporting event. Don't group them all together in one area of the Athletes Village, where in effect they become a de facto Russia/Belarus team.
Best of British
if you wanted to hear interviews with the likes of Dina Asher-Smith and Zharnel Hughes, I was the only broadcaster on site doing this for national television or radio!
A Wimbledon worry from Murray
Maybe it’s time we should all listen to him, and his views on the future of the sport he, and I, still love.
When is Team GB not Team GB?
The interview also showcased how much the brand of Team GB resonates with the general public as there was much interest in the team announcement and our interview. I was able to broadcast some of the key headlines on Times Radio as soon as the full team line up was known and the interview with Charlotte was also broadcast on radio station XS Manchester
Wimbledon wonderland!
It's lucky Michael's up north so he's doing the trials for the Budapest World Championships for talkSPORT on July 8/9 weekend in Manchester - and for the first time since 2019 I'm back at SW19 and back on the radio reporting on a sport I've loved since John McEnroe wasn't a grumpy old man but a young grumpy one!
Sitting Volleyball Returns
Amongst all the triumph and euphoria of London 2012, I think some mistakes were made in the aftermath. One of the key decisions which I believe was wrong concerned the withdrawal of funding for sports like volleyball, handball and basketball.
Investing in the future
We’ve been working on a couple of podcast recently. Totally separate and different, but they got me thinking, about the actual similarities and undoubted potential benefits, if sport was invested in. If only we would…
My London Marathon love-in!
I can't wait to tell some of the stories and get across some of the excitement. Yes the build up as been dominated by potential protests, but knowing London and the London Marathon at that I'm convinced it'll be a special day, raising stacks of cash for good causes and rightly back in its April slot! Roll on 20 odd more years!
Bouncing back from Beijing
despite
Despite the disappointments in China, this season has been phenomenal!
The decision is… No decision.
The All England Club announced the return of Russian and Belorussian athletes to the Championships. I’m
pretty sure it was a decision that would have been warmly received in the IOC corridors in Lausanne.
“There’s a lot more than footy!”
Steve Bucknall from Basketball England told me at a young age, "we're focusing on football way too much. There needs to be a broader perspective on sports in general. Offer a vision to all types of athletes."
My radio tribute
To David, Peter, Jonathan and James. This is my tribute to you. Just so you know what I’ve always thought….
Katherine Grainger On Russia’s potential participation in Paris
“It feels very uncomfortable that a nation at war could still be celebrating success on a global stage.” Uk Sport chair on potential Russian involvement in Paris Olympics.
When a podcast isn’t a podcast!
Errrr and eeeek, and sorry actually no! They actually don't want a podcast, they want a video!
Great British Bosses at 50
As we approach 50 episodes, we’ll keep asking the questions and keep inviting the CEOs, MDs, PDs and Head Coaches to take part.
My Sunday Times
So this week, when the Culture section in The Sunday Times highlighted 'Anything but Footy' and our countdown to the Commonwealth Games podcast, I was particularly thrilled…
